Does concealer expire?

Quick answer: Yes. Liquid concealer usually lasts 6 to 12 months after opening. Powder concealers last longer, around 1 to 2 years.

Under-eye use means more care

Many people use concealer close to the eyes. If the applicator wand touches your skin and then goes back in the tube, it carries bacteria with it, just like mascara. Applying concealer with a clean brush or finger instead of the wand keeps the tube cleaner.

Why concealer changes shade

Liquid concealers oxidize once opened, much like foundation. If yours looks redder or more orange than it used to, or no longer matches your skin, the formula is aging. That shift is one of the easiest signs to spot, and it usually shows up before any smell does.

Stick and cream concealers contain oils and waxes, so treat them closer to liquid and check the PAO on the pack.

Can I use expired concealer on a blemish?
